The Cincinnati Reds will honor hometown legend Pete Rose on Wednesday with a special No. 14-themed game night, as they look to honor the MLB’s all-time hits leader about seven months after he died at 83. The league reinstated Rose on Tuesday.

The Reds have been honoring the Hit King all season long by sporting a No. 14 jersey patch, but Wednesday’s game at Great American Ball Park will honor Rose in a bigger way. The team is even pushing back its start time against the Chicago White Sox to commemorate the World Series champion.

The Reds have a special 7:14 p.m. ET start time Wednesday as an homage to the legendary Hit King, who sported No. 14 during his playing career.

The Reds are hosting a special night at Great American Ball Park to “honor the life and career of the legendary ‘Hit King’ in front of his hometown fans,” according to the team’s website. All attendees will receive a No. 14 Pete Rose replica jersey featuring a commemorative Pete Rose Night tag. Per a press release, the jerseys are modeled after the road uniform Rose wore during his World Series victories in 1975 and 1976.

What time does Pete Rose Night start?

Gates are scheduled to open at 5:14 p.m. for Reds Season Ticket Members and 5:44 p.m. for all remaining gates, according to a press release. Fans are invited to attend pregame ceremonies, including a Q&A session with Rose’s former teammates, friends and family, at 6:30 p.m.

The game will have a special 7:14 start time as an homage to Rose, per the website.

Here’s the schedule of events for the Reds’ Pete Rose Night at Great American Ball Park on May 14.

5:44 p.m.: Gates open to Great American Ball Park. All fans will receive a No. 14 Pete Rose replica jersey.

6:30 p.m.: The following pregame ceremonies will begin:

  • Q&A with Reds Hall of Famers George Foster, Ken Griffey Sr., Eric Davis and Barry Larkin, with Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman serving as emcee.
  • Reds manager Terry Francona and others will honor the Hit King with a video tribute.
  • Colors will be presented by members of the United States Army.
  • Before singing the National Anthem, a 14-second moment of remembrance will be held to honor Rose’s life. 
  • Students from Western Hills High School, Rose’s alma mater, will sing the national anthem.
  • Members of the Rose family will deliver the official game ball. They will also serve as the game’s honorary captains.

7:14 p.m.: Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago White Sox. Iconic Rose moments will be shared during inning breaks on the ballpark videoboards.
