Kentucky women’s basketball head coach Kenny Brooks just added a 6-foot-5 international prospect.
On Sunday afternoon, Sweden’s Elsa Vadfors announced that she has committed to play college basketball for the Wildcats. Vadfors, who just turned 19 years old in April, currently plays for Uppsala Basket, a Swedish-based basketball club. She was a member of Sweden’s 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket team, where she averaged 1.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per outing.
“I’m so happy to announce that I’ve committed to the University of Kentucky!” Vadfors wrote in her commitment post on social media. “Thank you to Coach Brooks and the entire Kentucky coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Go Wildcats!”
Vadfors, who will be a freshman as a member of the 2025 recruiting cycle, is the 12th addition to Kentucky’s 2025-26 roster.
There admittedly isn’t much information available online about Vadfors, but she’s been playing professionally in Sweden for multiple seasons now. According to the Swedish Basketball League’s website, she’s appeared in 48 career games with averages of 2.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per outing. This season, she took the floor 18 times with per-game averages of 1.2 points and 2.9 rebounds.
Vadfors will bring some needed size to Kentucky’s frontcourt in 2025-26. She joins another 6-foot-5 post player in Clara Strack, who was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore this past season. Vadfors is one of five newcomers next season for Brooks and the Wildcats.
