Arkansas baseball rises, Tennessee falls in latest national rankings

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas moved to No. 4 in the USA Today Baseball Coaches Poll on Monday.

The Razorbacks (43-12, 20-10 SEC) concluded the regular season with a 2-1 series victory over Tennessee last week. The Volunteers fell from No. 14 to No. 17 in the poll.

There continues to be ambiguity about which is the best team nationally, though top-ranked LSU improved its number of first-place votes to 22. Second-ranked Texas (3), third-ranked North Carolina (1), Arkansas (2), fifth-ranked Oregon (1) and sixth-ranked Florida State (1) also received first-place votes this week.

The SEC has 10 teams ranked ahead of this week’s SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. LSU, Texas and Arkansas are followed by Georgia (8), Vanderbilt (9), Auburn (10), Florida (15), Tennessee, Ole Miss (20) and Alabama (21).

Arkansas is scheduled to play either Ole Miss, Florida or South Carolina at the SEC Tournament on Friday at 3 p.m.

In other polls updated Monday, Arkansas was ranked fourth by Baseball America and fifth by D1Baseball and Perfect Game. The coaches poll is the poll of record for this publication.

The Razorbacks have been ranked by coaches for 123 consecutive weeks since 2017, which is the longest active streak in college baseball. Arkansas has been included in the top 10 for 74 of the past 77 weeks, and has been ranked in the top 5 each week this season.
