CLIMBING THE LADDER AND CUTTING DOWN THE NET IN NEWARK, NEW JERSEY. ANOTHER DREAM REALIZED FOR COOPER FLAG. FLAG HAD 16 POINTS, NINE REBOUNDS, THREE ASSISTS. THE BEST PLAYER IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL. NAMED MVP OF THE REGIONAL FINALS. IT’S A DREAM COME TRUE. I MEAN, ALL THESE MOMENTS HAVE BEEN DREAMS COME TRUE, YOU KNOW, EVER SINCE THE TOURNAMENT STARTED. I MEAN, EVEN SINCE THE SEASON STARTED, JUST PUTTING ON THIS JERSEY, PLAYING WITH THAT, THE NAME ON MY CHEST. DUKE. IT’S BEEN A DREAM COME TRUE THIS WHOLE YEAR. Kelly Flagg, the mother of top NBA prospect Cooper Flagg, is one of 10 people who will be inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame later this year.

Bryant Barr
Barr was a two-sport star at Falmouth High School, winning state championships in soccer and basketball. He was known for his long-range shooting in basketball and averaged 25.5 points per game as a senior. Barr became Falmouth’s all-time leading scorer and was named Mr. Maine Basketball in 2006. He played Division I college basketball at Davidson, where he was roommates with current NBA star Stephen Curry. During Barr’s time at Davidson, the Wildcats made two NCAA tournaments and reached the Elite Eight in 2008.

Clara Brown
Brown, a Falmouth native and Cumberland resident, suffered a spinal cord injury at age 12 during a gymnastics accident. She regained her ability to walk but the accident left her with neurological impairments. Brown took up cycling and has become one of the best in the sport, winning 11 world championship medals, including three golds. She competed in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021 and won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Warren Caruso
Caruso has coached the Husson University men’s basketball team for 31 seasons and is nearing 600 career victories. The former Husson team captain has led the Eagles to 16 conference championships as a coach, each of those resulting in a trip to the NAIA or NCAA national championship tournament. Caruso has been named his conference’s Coach of the Year seven times and Maine State Coach of the Year three times.

Jamie Cook
Cook was a three-sport star at Kennebunk High School who won two national high school championships in track and field, along with state championships in sis different events. He was an All-State football player at five different positions and was named MVP of the 1994 Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic. Cook competed in collegiate track and field for Penn State, where he was a three-time All-American in the decathlon and was a Big Ten, Penn Relays and IC4A champion. He went on to become a college track coach, a career that has spanned 25 years and includes stops at Penn, Oregon and the U.S. Naval Academy, where he is currently the director of track and field and cross country. Cook has coached multiple Olympians and helped his teams win 15 NCAA championships.

Dajuan Eubanks
Eubanks has been with the Maine Celtics since the team’s inception in 2009, when they were known as the Maine Red Claws. He was first hired as vice president of corporate partnerships and was later promoted to executive vice president. Eubanks became team president in 2014 and helped lead the franchise’s acquisition by the Boston Celtics five years later. He was named the 2019-20 NBA G League Executive of the Year. In 2011, Eubanks co-founded Blue Wave Basketball, a program which helps teach children in Maine and New Hampshire the fundamentals of the sport. Before Eubanks moved to Maine, he played basketball for Rice University and spent three years with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Kelly Bowman Flagg
Flagg scored 1,200 career points for the Nokomis Regional High School basketball team. While at UMaine, she played on three conference championship teams and was a captain in her senior year when the Black Bears upset Stanford in the 1999 NCAA Tournament. Flagg helped coach her sons Hunter, Cooper and Ace at the youth level, and was also an assistant coach of the Nokomis girls’ varsity team.

Lynn Hersey
Hersey has been the head coach of the Smith College women’s basketball team since 2008, and helped the Pioneers become a national powerhouse on the Division III level. She has been named the D3Hoops National Coach of the Year the past two seasons and was the WBCA National Coach of the Year in 2023. Hersey has led Smith College to three straight Final Fours and to the national championship game the last two years. Under Hersey, the Pioneers have won five conference championships and have won at least 30 games in each of the last three years. Hersey played basketball for Dexter Regional High School in Maine and Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

Jesse “Flex” Labreck
Labreck won state track and field championships in four events and set four state records while competing for Messalonskee High School. At UMaine, she won five events and placed third in two more at the 2010 America East Outdoor Championships. Labreck won 10 school records during her collegiate career. She went on to become a champion on the television program “American Ninja Warrior,” hitting 10 buzzers and breaking her own record for buzzers hit by female competitors. Labreck became known by the nickname “Flex” during her time on “American Ninja Warrior.”

Larry Mahoney
Mahoney has been a sportswriter for the Bangor Daily News for 51 years and has held the Maine Hockey beat since its inception in 1976. He is also a color analyst for UMaine Hockey radio broadcasts. Mahoney has been voted Maine Sportswriter of the Year six times by his peers. He was a three-sport athlete at Bangor High School and captained the baseball and football teams. Mahoney briefly played for the UMaine baseball team.

Danny Paul
Paul made four All-State teams and competed for five championship teams as a runner at Portland High School. He went on to Northeastern, where he was part of teams that won Greater Boston and IC4A championships. Paul went on to win road races in at least 50 Maine communities in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. He has been a successful high school track and cross country coach during stints at Mt. Blue, Greely, Presque Isle and Falmouth. Paul’s teams at Greely High School were undefeated in dual meets from 1983 through 1993 and won eight state championships. He has won more than 30 state championships overall as a coach.
