Texas A&M baseball’s season has been a roller coaster so far, but now it’s looking like it will end in abject disaster. The Aggies, who started the year as the number one overall team in the nation, are now, in all likelihood, going to miss the postseason— something unthinkable before the year began, given all of the talent this squad has.
The nail in the coffin was the Aggies getting swept at home by the awful Missouri Tigers, who have no other SEC wins to their name besides the ones they got at Olsen Field last weekend. That was pretty much unforgivable, resume-wise, for a Texas A&M team that was walking a thin line anyway.
With this utter failure as a backdrop, the Aggies seem constrained to make a move at the coaching position. With this level of talent on the roster putting out such subpar results, there’s really only one direction in which the finger can be pointed— no matter whether or not there are injuries coming into play. One college baseball insider is hinting that such a move could be coming down the pike.
College baseball insider Kendall Rogers hints that Texas A&M could make move at coaching position soon
Rogers is as plugged in as anyone on the college baseball scene, and he was all over the Aggies’ search and transfer portal adventures last offseason. Though he’s generally a bit impassive on social media, he has made some indications that the Aggies could indeed be heading for a move at the head coaching position.
Take this, for example, following the loss to Missouri:
What kind of “much larger ramifications” could he mean? With the portal not yet open, it doesn’t seem like he’s talking about outbound player movement, especially with that not being the discussion on most people’s minds when it comes to Texas A&M baseball.
Rogers then put this tweet out today— again, not saying much in the way of particulars, but we can read between the lines here.
Some further background, too, is that Rogers has had a couple of spots on Texags Radio recently wherein he described the bar that Michael Earley needed to clear in order to be retained— making a regional. With that prospect dimming further and further, it seems likely that Earley could be on the way out.
We’ll have to wait and see if this comes to fruition, but things aren’t looking great right now for Earley. Luckily for A&M, there’s a home-run hire out there to be had if they can go out and make it happen. For now, though, there’s a grim sense hanging over Blue Bell Park.
