Binghamton baseball in NCAA Tournament: Regional schedule, bracket, how to watch Bearcats

Northeastern University begins play in the NCAA Tournament Friday night against Mississippi State at Dick Howser Stadium in the Tallahassee, Fla. regional. First pitch is 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.

The Huskies come into the game with a record of 48-9 ranked 19th in the nation after winning the Coastal Athletic Association title. This will be the first time Northeastern has met up with Mississippi State (44-21).

Bethune-Cookman and Florida State are the other two teams in the Tallahassee bracket. Northeastern will play one of those teams on Saturday in the double-elimination format for the tournament.

This is Northeastern’s 11thtrip to the NCAA regionals and their fourth appearance under head coach Mike Glavine.

Northeastern enters Friday’s contest on a 27-game winning streak. The run includes wins against the College of Charleston and two over the University of North Carolina Wilmington to claim the CAA title.

There is a local flavor to the Northeastern roster with several players who have South Shore connections. The pitching staff includes Charlie Walker from Milton High, David McSweeney (Cohasset/IMG Academy), and Brent Mulligan, a Quincy native who went to Catholic Memorial. Also on the team are infielders Jack Doyle (Weymouth) and Chris Walsh (Duxbury).

Doyle has started in 43 of 44 games and is hitting .269 with 6 home runs. Walker has a 3-0 record in 15 appearances on the mound.

Northeastern is led offensively by Harrison Feinberg (.379), Cam Maldonado (.371), Jack Goodman (.325), and Carmello Musaccchia at .310. Feinberg (18), Maldonado (15), and Goodman (10) are all in double figures for home runs this season.

The Huskies have found great success whenever Will Jones takes the mound. He’s 11-0 with an ERA of 1.82.  Aiven Cabral (10-2) and Jordan Gottesman (9-2) have also been workhorses.
