Picks to win the 2025 men’s NCAA baseball tournament
The Montgomery Advertiser’s Adam Cole and The Tennesseean’s Aria Gerson make their predictions for the men’s NCAA baseball tournament, including Arkansas, Vanderbilt and LSU.
The Miami baseball team is making its 50th appearance in the NCAA baseball tournament today against Alabama. But they’ll have to pull off some upsets to win the Hattiesburg Regional and advance past the opening round for the first time since 2016.
That was also the last time the Hurricanes (31-24, 15-14 in ACC) made the College World Series in Omaha. Under first-year coach JD Arteaga, UM finished the season on a 1-6 slump, losing its ACC tournament opener to Cal. Their offense is led by first-team All-ACC slugger and Golden Spikes semifinalist Daniel Cuvet, who led the conference with 72 RBIs and ranked in the top-5 with a .381 batting average, .706 slugging percentage and 1.157 OPS.
Cincinnati transfer Griffin Hugus and freshman AJ Ciscar head the pitching staff, with Hugus tying for fifth in the ACC with 85 strikeouts and Ciscar ranking sixth with a .208 opponents’ batting average.
Alabama went 41-16 (16-14 in SEC) and earned the No. 2 seed in the regional. The Crimson Tide are fueled by shortstop Justin Lebron, who led the SEC with 72 RBIs and tied for fifth with 18 homers. They’ve also got the SEC’s saves leader in Carson Ozmer (17).
Miami will face regional host Southern Miss (44-14) or Columbia (29-17) in either the winner’s bracket or an elimination game Saturday.
