The Green Bay Packers will release two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, league sources confirmed Monday.
Alexander has played all seven of his NFL seasons in Green Bay and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2020 and 2022. A first-round pick out of Louisville, Alexander has struggled to stay healthy over the last two seasons, playing in just 14 games.

Green Bay offered Alexander a restructured contract last month, The Athletic previously reported. He had two years remaining on a contract worth $21 million annually.
The 28-year-old enjoyed his best statistical season in 2022, recording five interceptions and 14 passes defended over 16 games. Last season, Alexander played in just seven games, recording two interceptions and one touchdown.
NFL Network first reported the news.
Why Packers are making this move
After almost five months in limbo this offseason, the Packers are releasing general manager Brian Gutekunst’s first draft pick.
Alexander signed a then-record extension for cornerbacks in March 2022 for $21 million annually and proceeded to make the All-Pro Second Team the next season, his second such honor in three seasons. However, the 28-year-old played in only 16 of a potential 37 games, including playoffs, over the last two seasons because of four different injuries and a one-game, team-issued suspension in 2023.
Alexander had the third-highest cap hit on the team for 2025 behind quarterback Jordan Love and defensive end Rashan Gary. The Packers explored a trade for Alexander since Gutekunst wanted something in return for such a financial investment, but a deal never materialized. The Packers also offered Alexander a restructured contract, but the two sides couldn’t agree on a deal before his release, which frees up more than $17 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.
Now, the Packers enter a season with Super Bowl aspirations featuring Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs and Carrington Valentine as their top three outside cornerbacks. Nixon drew rave reviews from Gutekunst after his first season as primarily an outside corner in 2024, while Hobbs signed with the Packers in free agency to play both inside and outside after mostly playing nickel for the Raiders. Valentine, a 2023 seventh-round pick, has flashed in inconsistent playing time over the last two seasons. Nonetheless, guarding the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Justin Jefferson in the division will be a tall task without a healthy Alexander. — Matt Schneidman, Packers staff writer
