1. Nevada’s Lilly Urban competes at NCAA Championships
Nevada sophomore Lilly Urban competes today in the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The javelin final is set for 5:15 p.m. on ESPN+ from Oregon’s Hayward Field. Urban qualified for this week’s national meet with a top-12 finish at the NCAA West Preliminary at Texas A&M and is one of 24 athletes in the field. Urban will throw in flight one of the final, with each flight having 12 throwers. Urban’s school-record throw of 56.89 meters that won her the Mountain West championship ranks 10th among the field of 24. The top eight finishers earn first-team All-America recognition while places 9-16 are awarded second-team honors. Here’s our video feature on Urban entering tonight’s meet.
2. Nevada basketball schedules non-league game with Duquesne
The Wolf Pack men’s basketball team has scheduled a non-league home game against Duquesne this season, according to college basketball bracketologist and analyst Rocco Miller. Last season, Duquesne went 13-19 and 8-10 in the Atlantic-10 under first-year head coach Dru Joyce. Duquesne made the NCAA Tournament in 2024 but has just four winning seasons in the last 14 years and eight in the last 31. Duquesne was ranked 140th in the KenPom rankings last season. The Nevada-Duquesne game is set for Dec. 13 and joins non-league games against Southern Illinois (home), UC Davis (home), Santa Clara (road) and Washington State (road) in addition to a spot in the Palm Springs Invitational.
3. Pack women’s tennis to play in ITA Kickoff, face Florida State in opener
The Nevada women’s tennis team earned an invitation into the high-profile 2026 ITA Kickoff Weekend thanks to its No. 72 slot in the final ITA rankings. The Wolf Pack will travel to Auburn where it will face No. 67 Florida State on Jan. 24. Based on results in the opening matches of the four-team pod, Nevada will play host No. 8 Auburn or No. 76 Tulane on Jan. 25. Nevada went 17-4 last season to set a program record in wins while finishing second in the MW at 8-2. The Wolf Pack’s season was highlighted by junior Amahée Charrier being named MW Player of the Year. She finished the season with a program-record 27 wins in singles.
