Ohio State AD Ross Bjork explains future of college football calendar: Buckeye Breakfast

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The college football calendar can be difficult to grasp.

There’s the winter window for the transfer portal. There’s the opening of the early signing period. There’s National Signing Day. There’s the spring portal window.

Ohio State AD Ross Bjork wants changes to help make the calendar more comprehensive. However, progress seems to be one step away from being a step away.

Under the shadow of the House settlement’s approval, it’s unclear who overlooks such changes. The options range from the NCAA and the new College Sports Commission to the Division I Council and the implementation committee — which Bjork is part of.

“Where it sits, who has authority, how it gets done — that’s all being debated right now,” Bjork said Thursday.

Bjork wants one 10-day portal window in the spring for football. He believes it aligns best with the academic calendar while also lining up with the fiscal year as schools prepare to share money with student-athletes.

Other facets that are factored into the calendar include signing days and the College Football Playoff schedule. Bjork also wants every season to include two bye weeks.

“We have to keep pushing that,” Bjork said. “My colleagues and I in the Big Ten, we want to keep pushing that. We’ll collaborate. We’ll communicate. We think we need to get that done sooner rather than later.”
