
The Louisville Cardinals are moving on in the College World Series after a tremendous eighth inning comeback in a must-win game against Arizona.The Cards trailed the entire game until they blew things wide open in the bottom of the eighth, notching six runs to take an 8-3 lead that they wouldn’t give up.Arizona struck first and early, scoring two runs in the first inning.Zion Rose drove in Jack Munroe on a grounder for the Cards in the bottom of the second inning to get on the board.Arizona added to their lead when Adonis Guzman hit a homer to left field, bringing the score to 3-1.Louisville got runners on base in the bottom of the third, and it looked like Matt Klein might drive one home, but Arizona fielded the deep shot to center field with a spectacular catch to end the inning.With runners on first and second and two outs, Louisville made a change at the pitcher’s mound in the fourth, bringing in Wyatt Danilowicz.The Cards survived the inning without giving up any more runs but still couldn’t notch any of their own.In the fifth inning, the Cards had runners on second and third with two outs, but a pop fly ended with them stranded on base.The Wildcats had runners on second and third when a laser-perfect throw to third base to catch the baserunner after a pop fly out closed the top of the sixth inning.Louisville had runners on second and third with only one out in the bottom of the seventh.A sacrifice fly by Lucas Moore let Garret Pike score a run.They weren’t able to bring any more in though, leaving the score at 3-2 going to the eighth.In the bottom of the eighth, Louisville put runners on first and second with no outs.Arizona brought in Tony Pluta, one of the best relievers in college baseball, to try and stop the Cards from rallying.They responded to that change by loading the bases and then driving in two runs to take the lead with a single by Rose.The Cards then put metal to ball and blew things wide open. A single let Rose score. Then, a sacrifice bunt let Kamau Neighbors score. Finally, Klein singled to let Moore score.Louisville went into the top of the ninth with a chance to close out and advance.Louisville will now play either Coastal Carolina or get a rematch with Oregon State depending on who wins that game.
