LSU baseball started its run at the 2025 College World Series about as well as it could have, knocking off No. 3 Arkansas 4-1 on June 14 in a matchup of the two highest-ranked teams in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament.
Now, a new obstacle awaits on the Tigers’ path to a national championship.
With a win already under its belt, LSU, the NCAA tournament’s No. 6 national seed, will take on No. 15 UCLA on Monday, June 16 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Tigers earned the win over the Razorbacks behind a dominant outing from starter Kade Anderson, who stuck out seven batters while allowing only three hits and one earned run across seven innings. LSU jumped on Arkansas, scoring three runs in the second inning to get an early lead it wouldn’t ultimately surrender.
It will be the first game between the Tigers and Bruins since 2013, when an unranked UCLA team edged No. 4 LSU 2-1 in the first round of the CWS on its way to a national title.

Who does LSU play in College World Series?
After its opening-game win against Arkansas, LSU will take on No. 15 UCLA in its next game in the 2025 College World Series.
The Bruins are making their first CWS appearance since 2013, back when they won their first and only NCAA championship. UCLA has yet to lose during the 2025 NCAA tournament, sweeping the Los Angeles Regional and Los Angeles Super Regional before knocking off Murray State 6-4 on June 14 in its CWS opener.
For as talented as they are, the Bruins have had a little luck to get to this point. UTSA’s upset of Texas in the Austin Regional prevented UCLA from having to go on the road to face No. 2 Texas in the super regional. Because of surprising results in other regionals and super regionals, it got the opportunity to play CWS newcomer and No. 4 regional seed Murray State in its first game in the CWS.
Among the key players for the Bruins is sophomore shortstop Roch Cholowsky, who won Big Ten player of the year and defensive player of the year honors. Cholowsky is hitting .362 with 23 home runs and 74 RBIs this season, helping him earn first-team All-American recognition.

With a win, the Tigers wouldn’t play again until Wednesday, June 18, against a yet-to-be-determined opponent, giving them a full day off. If they fall to UCLA, they’d play on Tuesday, June 17, against the winner of a June 16 elimination game between No. 3 Arkansas and Murray State.

LSU baseball’s game against UCLA in the College World Series will air on ESPN. Karl Ravech (play-by-play), Eduardo Pérez (analyst) and Kyle Peterson (analyst) will be on the call while Kris Budden will serve as the sideline reporter.
