Illinois football lands another in-state recruit, this one a four-star defensive back

The Illinois football team continues to stack up recruiting wins this week, landing its fifth in five days.

Four-star defensive back Nick Hankins of Belleville West committed to the Fighting Illini on Thursday during a live stream on Illini Inquirer.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder chose Illinois from a final five that also included Iowa, Ole Miss, Missouri and Tennessee. Composite rankings have him as the No. 10 prospect in the state and the No. 28 cornerback.

“Hankins has really good size and physicality at corner, but he also is an incredibly fluid and quick athlete with good ball skills,” wrote Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer. “That gives him Power Four starter — and ultimately next-level —  potential.”

Illinois’ Class of 2026 now sits at 23 players, including eight from the state of Illinois.
