OMAHA, Neb. — Press conference day at NCAA national championship events are more-so pomp and circumstance, more of a ceremonial feel for the student-athletes and coaches.

Those settings usually evoke generalities for responses and the stereotypical “coach speak.”

Ahead of the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament championship series at the College World Series in Omaha, which begins at Charles Schwab Field on Saturday (6 p.m. CT, ESPN), LSU baseball and Coastal Carolina took the stage to preview the best-of-three series.

And some truth came out from the Coastal Carolina side.

The Chanticleers (56-11), who have won 26 straight games en route to making to the CWS final, were asked what they admire about LSU “as student-athletes and fans of baseball?”

After a lengthy pause and Blake Barthol, Caden Bodine and Jacob Morrison all gazing at each other, Morrison finally leaned up to the microphone and broke the silence.

“Not a whole lot,” he said as the room erupted in laughter.

Barthol followed up with a more nuanced statement about the team focusing on itself ahead of game one Saturday night.

“I mean, we’re not really worried about the Tigers,” Barthol said. “We’re more of just a self-oriented team. We’re just focused on our team and our team only.”

LSU players were not asked the same question during its press conference but the Tigers (51-15) know that each team is not in Omaha to make friends with a national title on the line.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s the other team,” LSU ace pitcher Anthony Eyanson said. “I think they’re here to beat us, just like we’re here to beat them. So I think if we execute and play our game, we’ll have good results.”
