LSU vs. Coastal Carolina in the MCWS: 1 reason each team will win
The Southwest Times Record’s Jackson Fuller breaks down one reason LSU will win the Men’s College World Series and one reason Coastal Carolina will win.
As the College World Series championship between LSU and Coastal Carolina begins on June 21, will the SEC’s dominance continue when it is all set and done in Omaha, Nebraska?
The answer appears to be yes — at least, according to oddsmakers.
Recent history sides with the SEC in the College World Series, as LSU’s appearance marks the eighth consecutive College World Series that an SEC team has advanced to the finals (and 16th time in the last 17 NCAA baseball tournaments).
But an LSU title in Omaha isn’t a given, considering who the sixth-ranked Tigers’ opponent is — and what the Coastal Carolina has put together this season. The Chanticleers have 26 consecutive wins since April 22 and a perfect 8-0 postseason record that includes a super regional sweep of No. 4 national seed Auburn. There literally isn’t a hotter team in the country than Coastal Carolina, who by no means is a “Cinderella team,” per coach Kevin Schnall.
LSU and Coastal Carolina begin their best-of-three CWS championship series at 7 p.m. ET on June 21 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. Here’s what you need to know about who is favored to win the CWS championship series:
Who is favored to win College World Series championship?
According to odds on BetMGM, LSU heads into the best-of-three CWS championship series with the best odds to win the national championship at -165 odds.
The Tigers are 8-1 in the postseason, with the lone loss coming against Arkansas-Little Rock in Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Regional championship. LSU has continued its season-long dominance in Omaha, though Jared Jones had to play hero for LSU to return to the title game, as he hit the walk-off hit to complete the 6-5 come-from-behind win vs. No. 3 Arkansas in the CWS semifinals on June 18.
In his lone start at the CWS vs. Arkansas on June 14, LSU left-handed ace Kade Anderson was brilliant — he likely will need to replicate that if he wants to help his hometown team to their eighth national title.
An LSU series win over Coastal Carolina would not only give the Tigers their second national title in the last three years, but also would continue the SEC’s dominance in Omaha, with the conference’s seventh title in the last eight years.
