Joey Mcguire and his Texas Tech football staff have had some fun on the recruiting trail this offseason. From pulling in a remarkable transfer portal class to recently picking up a commitment from a 4-star cornerback out of East Texas, McGuire has been doing pretty alright for himself when it comes to getting new Red Raiders.
Texas Tech fans should absolutely, positively, be over the moon with the sort of recruiting progress that is happening out in Lubbock.
With the addition of S’Vioarean Martin to the 2026 Texas Tech recruiting class, the Red Raiders are making a splash in East Texas and building a pretty strong group to end up in Lubbock at the end of this recruiting cycle.
That’s certainly good news that is worth TTU fans celebrating and enjoying.
Of course, not everyone is so enamored or over the moon about Texas Tech’s recent recruiting success. You saw some of this come up around the most recent Women’s College World Series with regards to NiJaree Canady, but now it’s also a lot more tangible with the football team as we start pivoting from one phase of the college football offseason into the next.
As we get closer to football starting, and have fewer other things to talk about outside of college football, we’re going to see some more chirping about Texas Tech’s recruiting efforts and what that means in terms of wins and losses. We’ve seen it some from anonymous coaches regarding expectations for the Red Raiders in 2025.
Now we’re seeing some folks weighing in on the recruiting of Martin.
College football fans sound off as Joey McGuire, Texas Tech Red Raiders add S’Vioarean Martin to 2026 class
Here’s how a few college football fans are reacting to Martin committing to play for McGuire and the Red Raiders:
Texas Tech? They’re not even a top team in Texas

Incoming 7 wins in the Mid 12

Yeah, some folks have some strong feelings about Texas Tech’s recent seasons. It is what it is. The Red Raiders should have the talent to play significantly better this season than they have in the past few years. If that happens, then some of that sort of chatter will quiet a bit.
Super bummed but congrats to Tech and Martin.

I, for one, appreciate seeing this.
He’s a 4⭐️

The disparity in ranking between 247 Sports and On3 is a bit interesting to me. I appreciate that this Houston fan is weighing in on that one.
It’s gonna be epic when tech goes 7 and 5

And yeah, back to 7-5 jokes. It gets a little old, but at the end of the day, it’s on McGuire and the Red Raiders to win enough to where those jokes can’t be made.
