3-Team Kevin Durant Trade Reportedly Could Include Celtics’ Jrue Holiday amid Rumors

The Phoenix Suns are still shopping for trade partners for star forward Kevin Durant, and it sounds like the Boston Celtics could get involved to move on from one of their veterans.

During Friday’s episode of The Zach Lowe Show, NBA insider Zach Lowe reported that the Celtics could be part of a three-team deal when the Suns trade Durant, so they could ship away veteran point guard Jrue Holiday.

“The focus for me is on Jrue Holiday. I’ve heard that there have been at least very broad discussions of three-team, Durant-related trades where Jrue Holiday is (included),” Lowe said (h/t Souchi Terada of Mass Live). “I think these could be conjured by Phoenix in hopes of getting a deal done, more-or-less, where Jrue Holiday moves somewhere. Just like he was the shrapnel in the (Damian Lillard) trade and ended up in Boston.”

Lowe later clarified on social media that he was not suggesting that the Celtics are looking to acquire Durant, and his report was more about the likelihood of Holiday being traded this offseason.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reported earlier this month that the Celtics are “most definitely listening on calls for” Holiday, who has been their starting point guard for the last two seasons after being acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks. He’s set to make a salary of $32.4 million in 2025-26, further adding to Boston’s impending financial constraints.

While Durant is one of the biggest names on the trade market this summer, the Celtics have to retool their roster in the wake of Jayson Tatum’s ruptured Achilles, which could rule him out for the entirety of next season. Trading Holiday would bring some much-needed salary cap relief, but Boston will have more work to do if it wants to remain in title contention going forward.
