Keeseville’s Spencer Daby and Crown Point’s Trevor Harris reflect on teaming up for NCAA Division III basketball

Two hot shooters from the North Country hope to continue to pile up the points after their latest college commitment. Crown Point, New York’s Trevor Harris and Keeseville, N.Y’s Spencer Daby will both be taking their talents to SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball, an NCAA Division III program in central New York. “I’m very excited,” Harris said. “It’s been a long process, but I’m glad I finally made my decision.” “Being able to get another opportunity with Coach (Justin) Maxwell at Cobleskill is great,” Daby said. “I’m excited to get to work.” Harris is quite the familiar name to Section VII. He holds the section’s all-time scoring record in men’s basketball, a total exceeding 2,000 career points. He also holds the Crown Point school scoring record, a mark which he broke in his junior season. Harris was also a key piece in Crown Point’s back-to-back sectional championship appearances in his sophomore and junior seasons. He credits his soon-to-be alma mater for helping him reach this next stage in his young basketball career. “I give it all to them,” Harris said. “All my teammates, my coaches, I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done.” Daby has been a journeyman in the college basketball world. He started at Plattsburgh State University, before transferring to Clinton Community College where he thrived his sophomore year. Daby’s numbers skyrocketed with the Cougars averaging over 14 points per game with shooting splits of over 45 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc. He said his time at Clinton was critical for his development as a college basketball player. “Without Coach (Neil) Epstein and Coach Stan (Kissel) I don’t think I’d be here today,” Daby said. “They didn’t even know who I was, and they optionally brought me in and let me be on the team to be a part of something good. Without them, I don’t think I’d be here, so all praise to them.” Both Daby and Harris are interested in the opportunity to compete at Cobleskill knowing they have the chance to represent the North Country together on the college basketball hardwood. “It’s great. It means we work hard, and we want to chase our dream, so that’s all that matters,” Daby said. Daby and Harris are training and competing in the Plattsburgh YMCA men’s basketball league before getting ready for their first practices at SUNY Cobleskill this fall.
