Hall of Fame College Baseball Coach Ron Polk Announced as Little Rock Baseball First Pitch Speaker

Little Rock head baseball coach Chris Curry announced details for the annual First Pitch Banquet presented by Thompson Electric.

The fundraiser benefiting the Trojan baseball team begins at 6 p.m., Jan. 17 at Fisher Court inside the Jack Stephens Center on the Little Rock campus. Legendary College Baseball Hall of Fame Coach Ron Polk is the guest speaker.

Tickets can be purchased for $50 per ticket or $600 for a corporate table with $1,000 sponsorships available.

Polk coached 31 seasons as a head coach in the SEC with 1,373 wins and eight trips to the College World Series with three different schools. He is most well-known for leading Mississippi State for 29 years and guiding the Bulldogs to the CWS six times. At MSU he coached future MLB stars such as Will Clark, Rafael Palmeiro and Bobby Thigpen.

Polk, who was also the head coach at Georgia Southern and the University of Georgia, was elected to six Halls of Fame and coached the USA National Baseball Team seven times.

“It is such an honor to have Coach Ron Polk speak at our 10th Annual First Pitch Banquet sponsored by Thompson Electric,” Curry said. “Coach Polk is on the Mount Rushmore of all-time college baseball coaches and has done as much for college baseball as any coach in history. Little Rock Baseball fans, and fans of baseball in general, will enjoy a fun night of meeting the team, great food and fellowship, and hearing wonderful stories and insight from Coach Polk.”

Curry played baseball for a season at Mississippi State but not for Polk. However, Polk knew him and is happy to help support Curry’s Trojans.

“I got to visit with [Curry] when he played at Mississippi State,” Polk said. “He is a very delightful young man and very sharp. I am glad he got the job at Little Rock.

“I look forward to seeing Chris again and meeting his team and talking a little bit about what life is about.”
