ACC college football transfer portal rankings: 10 best newcomers for 2025 season

As the ACC works to maintain its place in the hierarchy of college football behind the Big Ten and SEC, talent acquisition remains a crucial battleground. While the conference likely experienced a net loss in the transfer portal during the recent winter window of the 2024-25 cycle, several key additions are still worth highlighting as the focus shifts to the 2025 season.

Florida State and Miami are among the biggest ACC winners, standing as the only conference members ranked in the top 12 nationally for the transfer portal team rankings following the recent update in early February. Ten of the top 50 individual transfers found a new home in the ACC, ranking behind the SEC (21) and Big Ten (12) but ahead of the Big 12 (6) among power conferences.

So, who are the top incoming transfers poised to shake up the ACC in 2025?

10. Thaddeus Dixon, CB, North Carolina

Transfer portal rating: 4-star | 92 | No. 49 overall

Defensive standout Thaddeus Dixon brings a wealth of experience to the North Carolina secondary after transferring from Washington, where he played under coordinator Steve Belichick. One of the top players in the transfer portal in mid-January, Dixon boasts 27 games played and 12 starts over the past two seasons with the Huskies. The 6-foot-1, 186-pound cornerback also spent two seasons at Long Beach City College before making his mark at Washington. Dixon accumulated 69 total tackles, three for loss, two interceptions, and 16 pass breakups in his FBS career.

6. Eric Rivers, WR, Georgia Tech

Transfer portal rating: 4-star | 93 | No. 41 overall

For as much receiver talent as Georgia Tech lost to the transfer portal this recent winter window, it did a decent job filling those holes for the 2025 season. Former FIU standout Eric Rivers started his career as a defensive back at Memphis before blossoming into one of the best vertical threats in the Group of Five the last two seasons. He finished the 2024 season ranked fourth among all FBS players with 97.7 receiving yards per game, totaling 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns on 62 receptions.

5. James Williams, Edge, Florida State

Transfer portal rating: 4-star | 93 | No. 27 overall

The potential home-run hire for Florida State in securing former Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White to fill the same position quickly paid off with edge rusher James Williams among those also making the move from The Cornhusker State. Williams played in every game for Nebraska this past season, recording 14 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. He ranked second on the team in sacks.

2. Duce Robinson, WR, Florida State

Transfer portal rating: 4-star | 95 | No. 7 overall

This recent transfer portal class is stacked with talented wideouts. Florida State added one of the better ones in the group with former USC standout Duce Robinson on the move to The Sunshine State. One of the most coveted transfers prospect of the cycle, Robinson has a 6-foot-6, 220-pound frame that allows him to line up in a number of spots on the perimeter. In two seasons with the Trojans, Robinson caught 39 passes for 747 yards and seven touchdowns.

1. Carson Beck, QB, Miami

Transfer portal rating: 4-star | 96 | No. 3 overall

This could be one of the biggest boom-or-bust transfer portal moves of the 2025 season. Quarterback Carson Beck was inconsistent at Georgia, but perhaps a fresh start at Miami gets him back in the conversation for the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Beck initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft before being offered a massive NIL deal to stick around the college level for another season with an opportunity to prove himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Beck has thrown for more than 7,900 yards in his career, adding 58 touchdowns with 20 interceptions.
