ACC moving games to Friday night

With a news release headline of “ACC Football to Own Friday Nights this Fall,” the 17-team league has announced a 12-game Friday night schedule for 2025. The Atlantic Coast Conference becomes the latest FBS conference to impinge on high school football’s Friday Night Lights.

“It’s just another thing that takes away from the high school boys,” said Hough coach Shawn Baker in a story from The Charlotte Observer. “It could also mean you have less (college) coaches coming to games on Friday nights checking out kids in person, which those kids need. Nowadays, if a coach can’t see you, they don’t want you.”

The ACC gained national headlines in the offseason with North Carolina bringing in future Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Belichick. The Tar Heels will play two Friday night games — vs. Cal (October 17) and vs. Syracuse (October 31).
