
CBS college basketball insider, Jon Rothstein, first reported the Vols will host Mercer to open the 2025-26 season.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On Thursday afternoon, CBS College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein reported that Tennessee will open the 2025-26 men’s basketball season at home against Mercer.
The Vols and Bears have faced off eight times in program history, with the series tied at 4-4. Tennessee won the most recent meeting, an 80-64 victory in Knoxville.
One of the more memorable matchups came during the 2013-14 NCAA Tournament, when the Vols advanced to the Sweet 16 with an 83-63 win over Mercer.
Tennessee has won the last three games in the series and will look to continue that streak in the upcoming season opener.
