Adam Sandler promises to cast Derrick Henry in a movie if Ravens RB posts 2,000-yard season

The NFL’s most interesting wager this season isn’t for money.

A back-and-forth between Adam Sandler and Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, facilitated by sports talkshow host Dan Patrick, has resulted in a promise from the comedy actor to cast Henry in one of his movies if he posts at least 2,000 rushing yards in a season.

The conversation began when Patrick mentioned he was wearing a sweatshirt gifted to him by Sandler during an interview Tuesday. Henry immediately said Sandler is his favorite actor and asked if Patrick could set up a meeting, and Patrick one-upped him by saying he would get him into a Sandler movie if he hit the 2K mark.

Patrick followed through on his promise Thursday, sending a video from Sandler to the Ravens confirming the terms of the bet.

Sandler’s message:

“Yo, Derrick, I just woke up. You know that, that’s why I look disgusting, on top of the fact that I am disgusting, but I love ya. Congrats on everything, baby. Two-thousand yards-plus this year gets you not only in the movie but we have a nice dinner together and talk about Dan Patrick’s facial hair and how hard it is for him to grow it. I love ya and keep it up.”

Suffice to say, Henry was pleased.

Henry has rushed for 2,000 yards before, posting 2,027 in 2020 when he was with the Tennessee Titans. He is one of nine running backs in NFL history to accomplish the feat, and would become the first to do it multiple times if he delivers on his pledge with Sandler.

The 31-year-old is entering his second season with the Baltimore Ravens after a highly successful first one, in which he posted 1,921 rushing yards, 193 receiving yards, 18 total touchdowns and a career-high 5.9 yards playing alongside Lamar Jackson.

The Ravens rewarded Henry with a two-year, $30 million extension that will pay him more than any running back north of 30 years old in NFL history. And now, he has something new to play for.

Baltimore is scheduled to open its season on Sept. 7 against the Buffalo Bills.
