After suffering its first Big East loss, Marquette still in top 10 of AP basketball poll

As often happens in college basketball, there is a lot of volatility once the conference seasons crank up.

Last week, 18 of the teams in the Associated Press top 25 suffered a loss. That includes the Marquette men’s team, which had its first Big East setback on Saturday against Xavier.

The Golden Eagles (15-3, 6-1 Big East) are ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press top 25 that was released Monday, down three spots from last week.

MU also is 10th in the USA TODAY coaches poll.

Who did Marquette play last week?

Before that 59-57 loss to Xavier at Fiserv Forum, the Golden Eagles had to dig deep to pull out an 85-83 victory in overtime over DePaul on Tuesday in Chicago.

Who does Marquette play this week?

The Golden Eagles play at Seton Hall (6-12, 1-6) on Tuesday night in Newark, New Jersey. MU lost at the Prudential Center last season.

Then MU is back at Fiserv Forum to face Villanova on Friday night. MU head coach Shaka Smart has not lost to the Wildcats in his four seasons at the school.
