The University of Akron men’s basketball team seeks to maintain its hot streak Saturday in the MAC-SBC Challenge against South Alabama at Rhodes Arena.
UA has won 10 consecutive games, all in the Mid-American Conference. The Zips (17-5, 10-0 in the MAC) are among five teams in the nation without a conference loss this season. South Alabama (16-8, 8-4 in the Sun Belt Conference) leads its all-time series versus Akron 2-0, with wins in 1980 and 1981.

UA coach John Groce called the timeout because guard Seth Wilson had dived on the floor to grab a loose ball. The hustle fired up Groce, who walked onto the court and encouraged Wilson.
Wilson made his first two 3-pointers of the game to fuel Akron’s hot start.

Akron hosted South Alabama on Dec. 18, 1980, when the Zips fell 52-29. UA lost its other game in the series 66-55 on Jan. 11, 1981, in Mobile, Alabama.

The 2012-13 Zips coached by Keith Dambrot began MAC play with 13 consecutive wins. The same team finished the season 26-7, 14-2 and lost to VCU in the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 64.
