Alex Bregman Rumors: Astros Make Last-Ditch Offer To Free Agent

Whether it’s for the Boston Red Sox or not, the Alex Bregman saga needs to come to an end soon.

The two-time World Series champion remains on the open market with under a week remaining before pitchers and catchers report to spring training. Bregman’s competitive nature should keep him from a deeper delay in starting his preparations in camp, though his representation must find an agreement soon. Teams such as the Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and his “incumbent” Houston Astros remain in the mix for Bregman.

The Astros reportedly once had a six-year deal, a long-term commitment Bregman seeks, worth over $150 million on the table. KPRC2’s Ari Alexander provided another update on those negotiations, which may not even matter in the grand scheme of Bregman’s decision.

“The Astros have improved their initial offer to free agent 3B Alex Bregman, two sources tell KPRC 2,” Alexander posted on X Thursday night. “However, that improved offer is unlikely to get the deal done, according to a source.”

Astros general manager Dana Brown certainly made it seem like the ship had sailed on a reunion, though nearly every team should be taking updates with a grain of salt until Bregman makes his choice.
