OK, so this might actually be the ultimate dress rehearsal for the 2025 Boston Red Sox.
The Sox spring training slate is winding down, and with Opening Day now less than a week away, Alex Cora might be tipping his hand on a final roster ahead of Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The best part for Sox fans? Friday night’s game is on NESN at 6 p.m. ET.
Garrett Crochet will get one final tune-up before the regular season begins, as he’ll get the ball to start at JetBlue Park.
The other big news, especially following an intriguing roster decision Wednesday, is Kristian Campbell will get the start at second base. Cora has acknowledged the club is nearing a decision on its infield, so it’s certainly possible Friday night’s lineup is a sign Campbell might have the gig locked up. Either that or this is one of his final chances to make his case in a crowded race for the position.

A pair of Pirates All-Stars, Mitch Keller and David Bednar, are among the Pittsburgh pitchers scheduled to pitch to that Boston batting order Friday night.

While the lineup might be largely sorted out at this point, that doesn’t mean there aren’t intriguing roster battles still up for grabs. It’s a big night for the likes of veteran pitchers Matt Moore and Adam Ottavino. The two have combined for just six innings of big league action this spring and both have opt-out dates on the horizon.
NESN’s coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET and can also be seen on NESN 360.
