The fifth-ranked Arkansas baseball team announced its weekend starters for the College Baseball Series in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday.
Sophomore left-hander Gabe Gaeckle will start against Kansas State on Friday, junior left-hander Zach Root will start against No. 22 TCU on Saturday and junior right-hander Gage Wood will start against Michigan on Sunday.
It is the same order as Arkansas’ first three games in its four-game series against Washington State to open the season. Junior lefty Landon Beidelschies, who started Game 4 against the Cougars on Monday, will come out of the bullpen.
All four Opening Weekend starters threw five innings in their season debuts.
Gaeckle did not allow a run and worked around 1 hit and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts; Root allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk with 8 strikeouts; Wood gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts; and Beidelschies allowed 1 run, 4 hits and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts.
“They all did a great job of giving us 5 innings,” coach Dave Van Horn said Wednesday. “It makes it obviously difficult to figure out who not to start, but when you really start looking at it, you probably just go with the guys that have had the most rest.”
Arkansas (4-0) is playing in an event at Globe Life Field in Arlington for the fourth time in five seasons.
First pitch against Kansas State on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
