Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy wins 2025 Golden Spikes Award as college baseball player of the year

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy was named winner of the 2025 Golden Spikes Award on Saturday.

Aloy was presented with the award on the field at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha prior to Game 1 of the national championship series between LSU and Coastal Carolina. Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn and assistants Nate Thompson and Bobby Wernes were among those in attendance.

Aloy became the Razorbacks’ third winner of the award, which is presented by USA Baseball to the national player of the year. Former Arkansas outfielder Andrew Benintendi won in 2015 and pitcher Kevin Kopps won in 2021.

The Razorbacks are the fourth program to have three or more Golden Spikes winners, joining Florida State (4), Cal State Fullerton (3) and Arizona State (3).

Aloy was among three finalists for the award, along with Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise and Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle. Lodise was presented with the Dick Howser Trophy in Omaha on June 13. That national player of the year award is voted on by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The more than 100 voters for the Golden Spikes Award include national baseball media, professional baseball personnel, the staff of USA Baseball and past winners of the award.

Aloy batted .350 with 21 home runs, 19 doubles, 2 triples, 81 runs and 68 RBI for the Razorbacks (50-15), whose season ended with a 6-5 loss to LSU in the national semifinal round Wednesday at the College World Series.
