Around the Empire: Yankees news

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: CC Sabathia became a Cy Young Award winner in Cleveland and remains a hero in Milwaukee as one of the best midseason acquisitions in MLB history. But if he has his druthers, he’ll be wearing a Yankees cap if he’s voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Although CC would also have the option to wear a blank cap like Greg Maddux or Mike Mussina given his prominence on multiple teams, he wants to represent the interlocking NY in Cooperstown — be it in 2025 or sometime down the road.

New York Post | Jenna Lemoncelli: 2025 is set to be a big one for Yankees captain Aaron Judge and his wife, Samantha Bracksieck. Word is that Samantha is expecting a baby girl sometime in the new year! They started dating in high school and married in 2021. We Judge this news: good.

MLB.com | Mike Petriello: Did you know that the Yankees tried to get Ted Williams to join the 1961 Yankees in an exclusive pinch-hitting role for $125,000? The Hall of Famer had retired from the only team he’d ever known, the Red Sox, after 1960, but since he had also tried to trade for him in years past (unrelated to the earlier DiMaggio-related rumors), owner Dan Topping gave it another whirl. Alas, Ted had no interest in pinch-hitting and the DH did not yet exist. The legendary ‘61 Yanks thankfully had no issues scoring runs, sans Splendid Splinter.

MLB Trade Rumors | Anthony Franco: A reunion with Tim Hill has been discussed, but per Jon Heyman, the Yankees are also considering adding another veteran lefty: Andrew Chafin. The 34-year-old has done quite a bit of traveling during the 2020s, including multiple stints with both Arizona and Detroit. He had a 3.51 ERA and 3.54 FIP in 62 games last year for the Tigers and Rangers.
