ESPN | Jorge Castillo: Dominic Smith has been one of the better stories in camp, emerging after a few years bouncing around the league to make a push for the Yankees’ Opening Day roster. But Smith had an opt-out clause in his contract that allowed him to become a free agent if the Yankees hadn’t placed him on their 40-man roster by Friday afternoon. Smith decided to try his luck elsewhere, with the Yankees in need of right-handed hitting on their bench rather than the lefty power swing Smith has showcased this spring.
New York Post | Greg Joyce: At the beginning of camp, Jasson Domínguez’s struggles in left field were a hot topic. The top prospect lost a couple balls in the sun, and just generally seemed uncomfortable in the corner outfield, taking shaky routes at times. Yet after those initial stumbles, the furor around his defense has died down as Domínguez has adapted to his new position. “I’ve really been excited about his routes. [They] have been really good,” Aaron Boone said. “He’s gotten to some balls that not a lot of people get to.” Domínguez’s forecast shifts dramatically if he can be a solid left fielder rather than a poor one.
FanGraphs | Davy Andrews: FanGraphs’ season preview involves a position-by-position look at the league, and this is their right field preview, which features the Yankees at the top. This comes as no surprise, as the Yankees project to get the best right-field production in the league this year all thanks to the best hitter in the world shifting back to his home in front of the short porch at Yankee Stadium. Judge projects for a 177 wRC+, which is somehow 40 points worse than his 2024 output. The Yankees may need Judge to best that projection and end up a little closer to his season line from last year if they want to repeat in the AL East.
