A’s lock in Brent Rooker with $60 million contract extension as…

The A’s are opening their wallets on the way out of Oakland.

The team agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract extension with slugger Brent Rooker on Monday night, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed, while noting the deal can get as high as $92 million over six years if incentives are met.

It continues what has been a surprisingly active offseason for the Athletics — at least by their thrifty standards.

According to reports, the decisions are likely motivated by avoiding a grievance with the MLBPA as their payroll has to be 150% of the $70 million they received in revenue sharing.

The A’s signed Luis Severino away from the Mets in December on a three-year, $67 million deal after the 30-year-old had an impressive season in Queens.

They then got busy on the trade market, dealing prospects to the Rays for left-handed starter Jeffrey Springs.

Springs, 32, pitched well in seven starts last season after he returned from Tommy John surgery, tallying a 3.27 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 33 innings.

The A’s also added former Yankees infielder Gio Urshela on a one-year, $2.15 million deal.

The spending spree of sorts comes as the team leaves Oakland this offseason to play in Sacramento at a Triple-A stadium before the franchise moves to Las Vegas full time.

Rooker has been a revelation with the franchise after four seasons bouncing between the Twins, Padres and Royals while making little impact on the major-league level.

In his two seasons in Oakland, the 30-year-old has slugged 69 home runs with 181 RBIs. Last season, he saw his slash line grow from .246/.329/.488 to .293/.365/.562.

The team also improved from 50 to 69 wins as they went from laughingstock to mediocrity.

ESPN.com reported the A’s rebuffed teams interested in trading for Rooker at the trade deadline and this offseason as they knew an extension would help them reach the $105 million salary floor needed to avoid the union’s grievance.
