Need an indicator of just how deep Southeastern Conference baseball projects to be in 2025? The Auburn Tigers open the season ranked No. 22 in national polls — and were picked to finish 10th in the preseason SEC poll.
Auburn’s season of facing some of the best competition college baseball has to offer includes the Tigers’ trip to Globe Life Field for the third weekend of the 2025 College Baseball Showdown. They join Baylor, Ohio State and Oregon State for a three-day, round-robin competition that will provide a fitting stepping stone into conference play.
Auburn College Baseball Showdown Schedule
- vs. Ohio State – Friday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. ET
- vs. Oregon State – Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. ET
- vs. Baylor – Sunday, March 2 at 4 p.m. ET
Auburn Baseball Names to Know
Bristol Carter
Transfer outfielder Bristol Carter arrives on the Plains via East Carolina, where in 2024 he earned Freshman All-American honors. Carter hit .346 in 159 at-bats with 13 multiple-hit games.
The newcomer adds a dependable presence at the plate able to get aboard consistently, which will help further ignite an Auburn offense loaded with potential.
Deric Fabian
Veteran infielder Deric Fabian transferred to Auburn a year ago from SEC counterpart Florida where he spent two seasons. In 2024, he hit .268 in 123 at-bats, homered five times, and drove in 27 runs.
Fabian has shown some impressive defense both in the SEC and in summer leagues, and last season was his most promising at the plate since arriving in college as a top 200-ranked high school recruit.
Ike Irish
Preseason All-SEC selection Ike Irish returns from a phenomenal 2024. Irish hit .319 drove in a team-leading 59 runs, matched Cooper McMurray for a team-best 14 home runs, and posted a 1.030 OPS.
The catcher and outfielder will be one of the tentpoles for the Tigers’ College World Series ambitions in 2025. Irish will also have the opportunity to solidify himself as a rising MLB draft prospect.
Cooper McMurray
Alongside Ike Irish, Cooper McMurray garnered preseason All-SEC honors. McMurray delivered a variety of team-leading batting statistics in 2024 with a 1.053 OPS;a .449 on-base percentage with a whopping thanks in part to his 47 walks drawn; and 14 home runs to match Irish’s team-best.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound McMurray’s physically imposing presence at the plate makes him one of the most intimidating batters in the SEC.
Carson Myers
Left-handed pitcher Carson Myers came to Auburn from UAB and in his first season as a Tiger, played an important part in the pitching staff.
Myers made 14 appearances with eight starts, pitching 47 1/3 innings. He struck out 35 and maintained a 4.94 ERA. Myers should be one of the primary starters in 2025.
Auburn College Baseball Showdown Opponents
Baylor
Baylor looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 out of a new-look Big 12 Conference. The Bears’ early-season slate includes the short trip to Arlington for the College Baseball Showdown, where they face Auburn in the Sunday finale.
Baylor’s potential breakout star is Wesley Jordan, who earned preseason All-Big 12 honors as a designated hitter.
Ohio State
Ohio State is looking to end an NCAA Tournament drought dating back to 2019. The Buckeyes feature one of the top MLB prospects in the Big Ten Conference, right-handed pitcher Blaine Wynk, and leading home-run hitter Tyler Pettorini.
Oregon State
Despite losing No. 1 overall MLB draft pick Travis Bazzana, Oregon State should again be a contender for the College World Series. The Beavers sport a top-10 ranking heading into 2025 behind a stacked lineup that includes preseason All-American shortstop Aiva Arquette.
Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation.
The 2025 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action will span three weekends.
When Is The College Baseball Showdown?
The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 ,and will run through Feb. 16.
The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, will take place Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.
To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also will include four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests will take place on Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26, and March 5.
