The 2025 NCAA baseball tournament is set to get underway on Friday, May 30, with teams opening regional play across the nation.
To get ready, Baseball America presents the ultimate tournament guide with stat-focused break downs of all 64 teams. Check out the full list of regional previews here.
1. Texas
Not every key stat is a glowing endorsement, and for Texas, the warning signs lie squarely on the offensive side. Despite boasting one of the nation’s best home run totals—giving the Longhorns the ability to generate quick bursts of offense—they rank just 122nd nationally in runs per game. It’s a jarring disconnect for a team with legitimate postseason aspirations.
On the mound, they’ve been elite, allowing just 4.2 runs per game while scoring 6.9, but that margin for error shrinks in the postseason. Teams overly reliant on pitching have faltered in recent tournaments—2024 Arkansas being a cautionary tale Texas would do well to heed.
2. UTSA
UTSA’s historic season has been fueled by one of the most relentless, contact-heavy offensive approaches in the country. Despite ranking outside the top 100 in home runs and lacking top-tier ISO numbers, the Roadrunners still sit 13th nationally in scoring—a testament to their ability to grind out at-bats and manufacture runs.
They rank 24th in offensive strikeout rate, ninth in team batting average and 28th in wRC+, illustrating a lineup built to pressure pitchers and keep the line moving. It’s not flashy, but it’s ruthlessly effective—and a major reason UTSA has emerged as a legitimate threat in the tournament.
3. Kansas State
Kansas State might not jump off the stat sheet at first glance, but its power potential is real—and potentially game-changing. The Wildcats’ .216 ISO ranks among the nation’s elite, a figure that speaks to their ability to shift momentum with a single swing.
Individually, Maximus Martin (.332/.428/.638, 14 HR, 54 RBI) and Keegan O’Connor (.323/.383/.656, 16 HR, 56 RBI) have been standout contributors in a lineup built to slug. Pitching inconsistencies remain a concern, but Kansas State has the postseason experience and offensive firepower to make noise if things click early.
4. Houston Christian
Houston Christian’s return to the postseason for the first time since 2015 is a testament to a breakthrough year in the Southland, punctuated by a conference tournament title. But statistically, the odds of a Cinderella run look slim.
The Huskies are allowing more runs per game (6.2) than they’re scoring (6.0), and there’s no dominant arm to lean on outside of Parker Edwards, the staff workhorse with a 3.93 ERA over 84.2 innings, but with just 69 strikeouts. There are a few capable bullpen arms, but in a challenging regional, Houston Christian enters needing everything to break its way.
