MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Talk of expanding the NCAA basketball tournament from 68 teams to beyond 70 has bubbled to the surface once again, but this time it’s coming from the top – NCAA president Charlie Baker.
“We’ve had good conversations,” Baker said of correspondence with CBS and the Turner networks that air March Madness during his address Wednesday to coaches and administrators gathered for the Big 12 Conference spring meeting in Orlando.
“Our goal here is to try to get to either yes or no sometime in the next few months because there’s a lot of logistical work that would be associated with doing this,” Baker said. “If we were to go down this road, you just think about the opening weekends, who has to travel the longest, it gets complicated.”
