  • Senior Alex Luccini tallied his team-leading fourth triple of the season for UMass Lowell.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Lowell quickly established an early lead, scoring three runs in the first two innings. The River Hawks got off to a strong start with two runs in the top of the first, courtesy of a pair of RBI singles from Fish and Martinez. An infield error in the second inning allowed sophomore River Hart to cross the plate, giving UMass Lowell a 3-0 advantage.

Stonehill responded in the bottom of the third to trim the deficit to 3-1. Sophomore Grayson Sparr led off with a walk, followed by a single through the right side from Cohall. Senior Taylor Gaspar was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases. With two outs, Sengenberger drew a walk, allowing the Skyhawks to score their first run of the game.

Stonehill continued to battle, narrowing the gap to one run in the fourth inning when Cohall plated Parks with an RBI double into the left-center field gap. After the River Hawks’ early momentum, Weber and Tullish combined to stifle UMass Lowell’s offense, keeping the Skyhawks within reach. However, in the top of the seventh, an RBI triple from Luccini, followed by a run-scoring groundout from Fish, restored UMass Lowell’s three-run cushion.

The Skyhawks mounted one final rally in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, pinch-hitter McGee belted an RBI double into the left-center field gap, scoring Sengenberger and pulling Stonehill to within 5-3. Despite the late surge, UMass Lowell’s senior Conor Kelly delivered a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth, and Zarnoch Jr. closed the game with a strikeout in the bottom half to secure a 6-3 victory for the River Hawks.
