
COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped a 10-inning, 6-5, heartbreaker to No. 12 Oklahoma Sunday afternoon (March 16) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.
Carolina had a 5-3 lead heading to the ninth. After getting the first out, a walk was followed by a single. The Gamecocks induced a fielder’s choice but an error scored the Sooners’ fourth run. Then an infield single from Kyle Branch tied the game at five. Jason Walk then hit a home run with one out in the 10th for the game-winning run.
The Gamecocks scored a run in the first on KJ Scobey’s sacrifice fly. Oklahoma tied the game at one in the fourth but the Gamecocks responded with two runs in the fifth as Evan Stone’s triple scored Henry Kaczmar. Kennedy Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 3-1. Oklahoma tied the game at three in the top of the seventh. Carolina answered in the bottom of the frame as Ethan Petry scored on a wild pitch. Petry was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth to make it 5-3.
Kaczmar had three hits on the day with Carrion adding a pair. Brendan Sweeney took the loss, allowing one earned run with three hits and four strikeouts with two walks. Dylan Eskew struck out three in a 4.1-inning start, allowing a hit and a run with four walks.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Nathan Hall extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
- Petry and Talmadge LeCroy each hit .500 in the series with the Gamecocks hitting .366 in the three games.
- Both teams left 13 men on base.

Carolina makes the cross-town trek to Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies, for a Tuesday night (March 18) game against the College of Charleston. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
