Baseball Falls to No. 1 LSU on Friday Night

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell to No. 1 LSU, 8-1, Saturday night (May 16) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.

LSU scored three runs in the third on a pair of home runs, but the Gamecocks answered with a run in the bottom of the third. KJ Scobey doubled and scored on Gavin Braland’s RBI single.

The Tigers scored two in the fifth, two more in the eighth and one in the ninth to even the series.

Jake McCoy took the loss, allowing five runs and six hits in five innings. The Gamecocks had five hits on the day.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Before Friday’s game, the Gamecocks honored their 10 senior players and eight senior staff members on Senior Day.
  • Nine of the 10 seniors have played in the first two games with Dylan Eskew scheduled to start on Saturday.
  • Braland now had nine RBI on the year.
