Indian River High School baseball and Unified sports standout Chase Ruley brings a wealth of talent and a team-oriented attitude that will help him compete on the next level.
Ruley, a pitcher and starting shortstop on the perennial playoff diamond squad, recently committed to study and play on the Salisbury University baseball team.
The Sea Gulls are an NCAA Division III powerhouse based in Salisbury, Md. Last season, they compiled a 32-12 record. During the postseason, SU lost to Mary Washington in the single-elimination Coast to Coast Conference tourney before winning four of five games against Massachusetts-Dartmouth and Mitchell to capture the Babson Park regional. Their season ended after a pair of losses to Salve Regina in the Salisbury super-regional.
Ruley joins at SU his Indian River teammate Roman Keith (IRHS Class of 2023), an outfielder who hit his first collegiate home run in a victory over Haverford College during his freshman season.
“Chase Ruley has been a huge part of this Indian River High baseball program for the past four years,” said head coach Steve Longo, who has led the Indians to the DIAA playoffs in each of the last four seasons. “His continuous hard work, dedication, discipline, leadership and humility are just a few of the many reasons why he is going to play at the next level.
“I have known Chase since he was 10 years old,” Longo said. “To watch him grow into a great athlete and, even better, into a fine young man, is a testament to how he was raised and the culture he has helped build here at Indian River. I am so proud of him and couldn’t be more excited to learn about the great things he will accomplish in the future.”
In addition to his baseball exploits, Ruley is one of the leaders for two of the school’s three Unified sports. He recently helped the inaugural IRHS Unified flag football team win the state championship, and he is the starting point guard for the Unified basketball team during the winter.
Here is the story of how Ruley’s hard work and success are taking him to the next level.
