Belmont basketball’s NCAA Division I era leading scorer Evan Bradds was hired on May 1 by Duke basketball coach Jon Scheyer as a Blue Devils assistant.

Bradds, a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection and the 2016-17 player of the year who scored 1,921 career points, spent the last eight seasons on the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics staffs

“Evan brings an unbelievable basketball mind, NBA player development experience and a unique ability to build meaningful relationships with players − something that’s core to our culture,” Scheyer said in a release. “His experience, vision and forward-thinking approach will help keep Duke at the forefront of college basketball. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”

Bradd, a Jamestown, Ohio native, had been an assistant at Utah since 2022. He served as the Jazz’s Summer League team head coach in 2023.

Before that Bradds spent four years with the Celtics organization starting out as an assistant coach and video coordinator for the Maine Red Claws, Boston’s NBA G League affiliate, before being promoted to the Celtics’ player enhancement staff under head coaches Brad Stevens and Ime Udoka.

“I am honored to be joining the Duke basketball program and want to express my immense gratitude to coach Scheyer for this opportunity,” Bradds said. “I am looking forward to working alongside coach Scheyer and the Duke team to help continue the long-standing tradition that is Duke basketball.”

Bradds ranks sixth in NCAA Division I history in career field goal percentage at .667. He was a two-time Lou Henson CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-American and Associated Press All-American honorable mention as a senior.

He lead Belmont to a 97-50 record over his four years as a starter along with a trip to the 2014-15 NCAA tournament and three NIT berths.
