While Oregon continues its push for a first-ever national championship, Nebraska is striving to regain relevance in the Big Ten after snapping its long bowl drought. Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, USC and Washington also secured key reinforcements of their own, keeping the Big Ten in step with the SEC in elite talent acquisition. For the second consecutive year, the No. 1 overall transfer portal prospect chose a Big Ten as the next destination in their college football path.
So, who are the top incoming transfers poised to shake up the Big Ten in 2025?
Michigan may fly under the radar as one of the best backfields in college football next season — mostly because of what it lost. However, the addition of Alabama running back Justice Haynes is key. The No. 1 running back of this 2024-25 transfer portal cycle was a member of the 247Sports Freaks List coming out of high school. Haynes rushed for 448 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 carries this past season, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt — enough for sixth-best in the SEC.
No cornerback in the winter transfer portal was more coveted than Tacario Davis. After Arizona posted a disappointing 2024 season, several players departed, including Davis. It was not his first time testing the portal — he previously considered following former head coach Jedd Fisch to Washington before last season. This time, he made the move, giving the Huskies a veteran presence in the secondary for 2025.
Emmanuel Pregnon was a late transfer portal entry after the deadline — a shocking move for a likely 2025 NFL Draft prospect. That did not stop Oregon from quickly pursuing the 6-foot-5, 320-pound guard from USC. A second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2024, Pregnon was the Trojans’ top offensive lineman, playing a team-high 882 snaps and making 13 starts. He allowed no sacks at left guard and surrendered just 14 total quarterback pressures.
Ohio State remains strategic with its transfer portal additions, using the new approach to complement the elite level of high school recruiting, a formula that already led to a national championship in 2024. Transfer tight end Max Klare gives the Buckeyes an upgrade at that position for 2025 after flexing his dynamic skill set at Purdue. He caught 73 passes for 881 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games played for the Boilermakers the past two years. Klare led Purdue in all three receiving categories this past season.
The impact of an experienced offensive tackle cannot be overvalued, and that it exactly what Oregon is getting in No. 1 overall transfer prospect Isaiah World. The former Nevadastandout made a significant leap in the individual rankings update earlier this month due to his size, athleticism and experience. Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 320 pounds, World was a three-star recruit coming out of high school. This past season, he earned All-Mountain West honorable mention after starting all 13 games at left tackle and not allowing a sack in 420 opportunities.
