Ryan Callahan: The Vols somehow went the entire month of October — only three games, to be fair — without scoring a first-half point. It’s one of the most head-scratching statistics of Josh Heupel’s head-coaching career, especially since Tennessee has often been a fast-starting team that has jumped on teams before the end of the first quarter. For whatever reason, though, the Vols have struggled to score in the first half recently, and it has been relatively hard for them to produce points in general.

But Kentucky might be, to some degree, the cure for what has been ailing Tennessee’s offense. I don’t expect the Vols to have an offensive explosion in this game, but I do think they will end their first-half scoring drought and put together at least a few scoring drives in the first and second quarters. The Wildcats’ defense has struggled recently, with Auburn piling up more than 300 rushing yards and nearly 500 yards of total offense last week in its 24-10 win over Kentucky. It should be a favorable matchup for Tennessee, and I think the Vols will take advantage of it by scoring at least 17 in the first half.
