On that note, the second tight end in this offense is a very intriguing position battle from the standpoint that it will dictate what the rest of the offense will look like. The two primary contenders are both transfers: Ty Lockwood from Alabama and Zeke Moore from Florida Atlantic. Lockwood, at 6’5″ and 240 pounds, didn’t get much playing time for the Crimson Tide, but looks like he could be a dynamic pass-catcher, perhaps adding some size and verticality to the position a la early career Hunter Long.
Alternatively, Zeke Moore is an undersized tight end who looks more like a fullback. On some mediocre FAU teams, he was likely asked to do more than he was capable of. But on this BC offense, which has plenty of other playmakers, he can slide into a more complimentary role, especially if he can be a solid move blocker, lining up in the backfield or on the wings of the formation. Moore should be an interesting threat in the red zone, as defenses will likely forget to cover him.
Further down the depth chart, Danny Edgehille got some playing time early last year, but has been quiet this spring. Another former walk-on, Brady Clough, could step into that role as TE3/4. Ryan Boultwood, a rare JUCO transfer, didn’t play at all last year, so it’s hard to know what his role is moving forward. Finally, three true freshmen will be coming in the summer; while it’s not necessarily fair to expect them to be immediate contributors, O’Brien and Lewis are not afraid to throw young players into the fire if they deserve it.
