The Arizona Diamondbacks and starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt agreed to a five-year contract extension on Friday, the team announced.
According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, the deal includes a $21 million club option and a $25 million mutual option.
Gambadoro adds the deal includes a limited no-trade clause from 2030-32 and includes five teams.
FanSided’s Robert Murray adds the five-year deal is worth $45 million.
The news comes a day before Pfaadt’s 2025 debut.
“Brandon falls very much in the group of players we have that we feel like getting some certainty around what the future’s going to look like,” general manager Mike Hazen told reporters Friday. “It was very important in terms of building a roster and keeping this team together for as long as we can. We feel like these things are important for us and the fans to know that guys are going to be here.”
Pfaadt is coming off a 2024 campaign where he went 11-10 with a 4.71 ERA and 1.239 WHIP across 32 starts.
He was one of nine NL starters to record at least 19 bids of at least six innings and was tied for fourth in walk rate (5.5).
The pitcher made his MLB debut in 2023. He went 3-9 with a 5.72 ERA and a 1.406 WHIP. He also became just the third D-backs rookie to start a playoff game and is the youngest postseason starter in Arizona history.
“We’re just happy to be here longer and extend that stay a little longer,” Pfaadt told reporters on Friday. “We’ve loved every minute of it”
Brandon Pfaadt not only Diamondbacks contract extension in 2025
The deal is yet another move toward the D-backs keeping their young core intact.
Before the Pfaadt deal, Arizona inked shortstop Geraldo Perdomo to a four-year, $45 million deal that includes a club option.
Reliever Justin Martinez also put pen to paper this offseason, signing a five-year, $18 million deal with the club last Friday.
The D-backs are back in action against the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m. and can be heard on the Arizona Sports app, 98.7 and ArizonaSports.com.
