Braves News: AJ Smith-Shawver to IL, Chris Sale makes history, and more

The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver on the 15-day injured list following his start on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The team announced that he suffered an elbow strain.

Smith-Shawver exited the game in the third after taking a line drive to the leg off the bat of Bryson Stott. He tried to stay in the game, but in an isolated incident, he felt a “pop” in his elbow, which ultimately did him in. He is back in Atlanta for further examination.

To take Smith-Shawver’s spot on the roster, the club recalled Michael Petersen.
