Browns select QB Dillon Gabriel with the No. 94 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft

The Browns select QB Dillon Gabriel with the 94th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

“Decorated college career, very accurate, very poised, throws with anticipation, good mobility,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Andrew Berry said. “We just thought he had a really well-rounded game. And the biggest negative that you can say about him is that he doesn’t have ideal height. But that’s not something that we felt like showed up in his game or his film at UCF, Oklahoma, and certainly not at Oregon this year.”

Gabriel spent his first three seasons at UCF where he completed 554 of 913 passing attempts for 8,037 yards and 70 touchdowns. He then transferred to Oklahoma beginning in 2022 and played two seasons. Gabriel completed 496 of 751 passing attempts for 6,828 yards and 55 touchdowns. Gabriel spent his final collegiate season with Oregon in 2024, in which he completed 326 of 447 passing attempts for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Gabriel’s 155 career touchdowns also set an all-time career FBS record.

Over his stops throughout his collegiate career, Gabriel said he had the chance to be around different offensive schemes, coaches and produce a successful college career, which helped him develop as a quarterback.

“Just being able to grow in that way – terminology, offensive scheme, just the amount of variations that I’ve been accustomed to and have adapted too quickly – naturally, you just know more about ball,” Gabriel said. “I’m very glad I had those experiences. They all built me up to where I am today.”

As the Browns work to rebuild their quarterback room, Gabriel joins a group that consists of 17-year veteran Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. While they will hold competition for the starting job for the 2025 season, Gabriel has an opportunity to learn from veterans and as he acclimates to the NFL.

Gabriel understands that he’s entering a quarterback room where there will be competition for the starting job, but it’s not something he is shying away from.

“I also know that a healthy quarterback room is important and being able to compete day in and day out is naturally what happens and part of what we do,” Gabriel said. “But I look forward to whatever I walk into and being able to get around the guys and like I said, creating impact, create value in anything and in every way I can.”

He also sees a major benefit in having the chance to learn from Flacco’s experience in the NFL.

“I think that’s huge. I think as a guy who’s played a lot of ball myself, I obviously know there’s still a lot for me to learn,” Gabriel said. “And then on another piece me being a vet in college, I know how much I was able to share knowledge in college with some younger guys and I’ll be doing the same learning from Joe. I think it’s a unique situation and having a guy like him that has a lot of knowledge and has played a lot of ball, he’s seen what works and what doesn’t. And I think, just being able to be a sponge and be around him will definitely benefit me.”
