METCALFE COUNTY, Ky – On Friday, one Metcalfe County Hornet who excelled on the football field signed his national letter of intent to bring his talents to Lindsey Wilson College next season.
You might recognize the name Byron Kirkland Lundy as the senior who broke a KHSAA state record in the fall, recording 10 rushing touchdowns in Metcalfe’s 70-to-44 win over Clinton County. The number marked the most rushing touchdowns in a single game in Kentucky.
Kirkland-Lundy spent two seasons with the Hornet football team and in his senior year he tallied over 1,687 rushing yards for a total of 26 rushing touchdowns.
A member on both the basketball team and track and field team as well, Kirkland-Lundy has greatly impacted Metcalfe athletics during his high school career, and one thing that sets this hornet apart from others is the smile he wears proudly on and off the field.
“ Man, it feels good,” Kirkland-Lundy said. “It feels really good. I worked really hard for this day, and like I said, all glory God and thank you. Thank you to my teammates because without them, I would not be here at all.”
“He’s just one of those kids that you wish you had a team full of them,” Metcalfe County football head coach LJ Harbison said. “He’s special and he’s going to go places later and in the rest of his life. We’re excited for him, and big congrats to Byron.”
