OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – Baylor baseball senior shortstop Tyriq Kemp has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award watch list, as announced Friday by the College Baseball Foundation.
The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It’s named after former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980 and died of leukemia at the age of 27.
The top 100 shortstops in the country were included on Friday’s watch list, recognized for their tremendous offensive numbers and solid defensive statistics.
Through 37 games, Kemp is batting .343 with 46 hits, including a team-leading 13 doubles. The native of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, has homered twice and has driven in 24 runs so far this season, already having surpassed his entire 2024 season output.
A premier defender, Kemp has started all 37 games this season at shortstop and made just five errors in 153 chances, fielding at a .967 clip.
Kemp is one of seven Big 12 players named to the watch list, joining Utah’s Core Jackson, UCF’s Antonio Jimenez, West Virginia’s Brodie Kresser, Arizona State’s Matt King, Kansas State’s Maximus Martin and Cincinnati’s Charlie Niehaus.
