Casey Rogers is coming home to upstate New York, bringing his football journey full circle.
The Buffalo Bills claimed the defensive tackle off waivers after he was released by the New York Giants.
Rogers, a Syracuse native, starred in football and lacrosse at Westhill High School. He originally committed to play lacrosse at Syracuse University, where his father was a coach, before deciding to pursue football at Nebraska. He later transferred to Oregon.
Rogers, 26, is the fifth defensive tackle the Bills added this offseason. Buffalo signed Larry Ogunjobi, drafted T.J. Sanders in the second round and Deonte Walker in the fourth round, and signed Devin Brandt-Epps as an undrafted free agent.
“Let’s go Buffalooooooooo,” Rogers posted on X.
After going undrafted in 2024, the 6-foot-5, 305-pound Rogers clawed his way onto the Giants’ roster from the practice squad and made his NFL debut in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints, where he blocked a 60-yard field goal attempt as time expired in the first half. He was the first rookie to block a field goal in the 2024 season. Rogers played 33 defensive snaps and nine special teams snaps in two games.
In college, Rogers appeared in 46 games, recording 95 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Rogers is the son Lelan Rogers, a longtime collegiate lacrosse coach who is currently in his second stint as head coach of the men’s lacrosse team at SUNY Cortland. Lelan previously spent 14 years as the defensive and recruiting coordinator at Syracuse University, where he helped coach the Orange to back-to-back national championships in 2008 and 2009.
The elder Rogers was a Division III national champion in wrestling at 190 pounds at St. Lawrence University in 1985 before transferring to Syracuse. He became team captain on the Syracuse wrestling team and was a member of the Orange’s 1987 Final Four lacrosse squad.
