Cabrillo baseball ousted from NorCal Regional playoffs

Cabrillo College’s baseball season came to a close Friday, when the No. 21 seed Seahawks lost 11-5 to No. 4 Feather River in the CCCAA NorCal Regional playoffs in Quincy.

The Seahawks won 10-6 to open the best-of-three, first-round series Thursday and lost 12-4 in Game 2 on Friday.

In their finale, Oscar Knapp had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI for the Seahawks (19-23 overall). Adrian Castaneda had two hits, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Truett Ross had two hits and one RBI. Jacob Fiorenza had one RBI and scored a run. Diego Grabiel and Jayson Schmeisser each had a hit and scored a run.

Kory Chu had two hits, two walks, two RBI, and scored three runs for the Golden Eagles (33-10). Shane Danley had two hits, two walks, and two RBI, and Dylan Marx had three hits and scored twice.

Will Page-Allen pitched four innings of relief and earned the win for the Golden Eagles, who rallied from a 4-0 deficit. Christian Trejo pitched two innings of relief and took the loss.

Feather River advances along with No. 16 Sacramento City (23-20) to a Super Regional hosted by No. 5 Sierra (28-13).

High school baseball

At Watsonville 11, Pajaro Valley 2: Brody Barto had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run in the Wildcatz’s PCAL Cypress Division win Saturday.

Francisco Rodriquez-Bermundez and Justin Curiel each had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice for the Wildcatz.

Brandon Lampon had two hits and one RBI for the Grizzlies.

On Tuesday, Pajaro Valley (2-12, 1-8) plays Seaside at 4 p.m. and Watsonville (10-11, 8-0) hosts King City at 5 p.m.

Aptos 13, at Los Altos 7: Isaiah Work hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and Nate Garcia also homered in the Mariners’ nonleague win Saturday.

Work finished with three hits and five RBI, and Garcia had three hits and two RBI. Damien Espinoza had a hit and three RBI. Dom Castillo had a hit, one RBI, and scored four runs, and Cole McGillicuddy had a hit and scored three runs.

Darrion Wesley doubled and had two RBI for the Eagles (17-5).

Jason Yager gave up two unearned runs in four innings of relief and earned the win. He struck out seven batters and walked two. Mitesh Jain took the loss.

Aptos (8-12, 4-6) plays at Harbor (14-9, 5-6) in SCCAL action on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Burlingame 8, at Santa Cruz 6: The Cardinals trailed 7-1 after three innings and were unable to complete their rally in their nonleague loss Saturday.

Drew Gall had three hits, including two triples, one RBI, and scored twice for the Panthers (10-12).

Ea Leialoha pitched four innings and earned the win.

Santa Cruz (11-11, 8-3) plays at San Lorenzo Valley (3-18, 0-11) in SCCAL action on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

At The King’s Academy 12, Scotts Valley 2; 5 inn.: Tyler Howard had a hit and two RBI for the Falcons in their nonleague loss Saturday.

Isaac Martin doubled and scored a run for the Falcons (10-12, 6-5). Fabricio Gomez also scored.

Ethan Johnson had three hits, including a double and home run, five RBI, and two runs scored for the Knights (10-9).

Scotts Valley plays at Soquel (20-1, 9-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

At North Monterey County 5, SLV 2: Spencer Bruce had a hit and scored a run in the Cougars’ nonleague loss Saturday.

Brody Egner also scored for the Cougars (3-18, 0-11).

Greg Jimenez had three hits and one RBI for the Condors (12-10).

Huck Blanton struck out 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings and earned the win.

SLV hosts Santa Cruz (11-11, 8-3) in SCCAL play on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Women’s tennis

UC Santa Cruz 4, Mary Washington 0: Sara Beckman, Natalie Sprenger, and Chloe Wu earned singles wins to help the Banana Slugs advance from the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament semifinals at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday.

Melody Ghaffari and Wu, and Meghana Damojipurapu and Sweden Van Houten earned doubles wins to give UCSC a 1-0 lead.

UCSC (13-6) faces Christopher Newport (12-7) in the championship on Sunday.

Men’s tennis

Mary Washington 4, UCSC 2: The Banana Slugs (11-11) were eliminated in the semifinals of the Coast-To-Coast Conference Championships at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday.

Andrew Tjoa and Benjamin Wang, and Adam Hidas and Praneet Varade earned doubles wins to give UCSC a 1-0 lead.

Hidas won at No. 5 singles in three sets for UCSC’s other point. Tjoa and Radin Sadeghi lost their singles matches in thee sets.
